Alaska was granted U.S. territorial status in 1912, and entered the United States on January 3, 1959 as the 49th state.

In 1867 the British-North America Act established a monarchy state in Canada. Then, the U.S. Secretary of State William Seward urged his government to quickly purchase Alaska from Russia for the negotiated price of $7.2 million. Alaska is the 49th U.S. State.
